A Day in the life I Dream

Hello 2016

January 1, 2016
hello 2016

Hello 2016! You’re here. I am glad to see you because I really hope you’ll be different from 2015.

I have been reflecting on my life this past week and wondering why I have been so very unhappy in 2015. I don’t want to continue feeling like that during this year. It’s hard when you hit the bottom of the barrel and can’t see any light. I don’t have all the answers yet, of course, but I’m hoping my goals for the year along with my work for this year, will help. I didn’t really do a word last year but I kinda did for 2014 {Live} and 2013 {Out of my comfort zone}. They were great years.

For 2015, my word is KIND.

It ties in well with my goals.

Kind to others:

I want to volunteer in 2016. I have already applied to a couple of positions — one with young people and one with animals — and I’m waiting to hear back next week about them. I think giving to others might help give me perspective and make me less unhappy.

I am going to value the people in my life a lot more and be patient where I can. I might fail but I sure will try. I will spend more time disconnecting online and connecting with people.

Kind to myself:

I intend to be nicer to myself. I am my own worst enemy and harshest critic. In 2016, I’m going to practice self-compassion by allowing myself to make mistakes and be imperfect without putting myself down.

I intend to practice mindfulness and be present to help my worrying mind and therefore, be kind to myself.

I will give myself time to write 15 minutes every day {not counting the blog} thereby building my skills. I will also be kind to myself by believing in my writing and therefore, pitching to magazines and building up some copywriting work.

I am going to stop allowing others to affect how I feel. By that, I mean I am either going to cut out toxic people from my life or find ways to rise above others’ pettiness. I am not going to compare my life to others and going to accept myself as I am. Because you know what? I am enough.

Kind to my body:

In 2016, I intend on feeding my body with nutrients rather than a whole lot of junk. I realise it’s not kind to treat my body like junk and instead will aim to plan and cook my meals for the week on the weekend. I’m hoping particularly, to cut out my refined sugars as they are a minefield for not just my weight and health, but also my skin. So goodbye cakes, biscuits and ciders! {Unless they are made by me without refined sugars}

I will continue to exercise but aim to get out of the rut I’ve been in this past month. I’ve signed up to 12WBT from February to help with more recipe ideas but more so, new workouts.

I aim to sleep 7 to 8 hours this year. My sleep last year was shocking. This year, I don’t have the excuse of uni so I can definitely go to bed by 9-9:30 and then be up at 5.

I’m hoping by being kind, 2016 decides to be kind to me too.

What about you? Do you make any goals or resolutions for the new year?

Do you have a word?

Do share!

Hello from a fellow UBC participant! I like how you post from the heart. Kind is a great word for 2016. For me, the word of the year is ACTION. It’s time to stop talking about what I’m going to do and actually take action.

Welcome here Valerie! Thanks for the lovely comment. I love your word for the year — we are all occasionally guilty of talking and not doing, possibly because of the fear of failure that comes with it. Good luck! 🙂

Of course I know that resolutions last just as long as a week at best so I hope the word of the year lasts longer! Wishing you every success with your word of the year.

Hi Sanch, my word for 2016 is contentment. I am also from Australia but I have been travelling the last couple of years and have been lucky enough to spend time in a mindful community in the North of Thailand……where I’ve learnt how to meditate and practice mindfulness. This has made me a lot less reactive in emotional situations……well some of the time anyway! lol I think happiness is fleeting and would just like some inner peace. Thanks for sharing!
