If we were having coffee 11th August 2017 #writebravely

August 11, 2017
coffee

If we were having coffee, I’d apologise for it being a long time between drinks. I’d invite you in and offer you your choice of beverage. We’d sit on the couch and maybe have the cats sniff around you curiously.

If we were having coffee, I’d tell you about a course I went to yesterday as part of my continuing professional development as a psychologist. It was about Acceptance and Commitment therapy for anxiety disorders. I’d tell you how I realised just how much experience I now have having worked in the field for nine years. It felt more like a refresher course than when I’d attend courses as a new grad and feel quite clueless. It’s a strange feeling and a sign of getting old.

If we were having coffee, I’d tell you that yesterday’s course was also a validation in terms of how far I’ve come with my own anxiety. When we were roleplaying and using our own examples, I realised I’ve become better at sitting with discomfort than trying to push it away. Of course, there’s still a long way to go but funnily enough, the course did get me thinking about values and committed action with regards to writing.

If we were having coffee, I’d let you know that I’m 750 words into my short story for a competition. Once I’ve worked on that and edited and submitted it, I plan to finally write that damn book. The competition closes at the end of this month so it’s not too far away.

Speaking of writing, I’d tell you I’ve enrolled in a short workshop on Saturday about voice in writing. I figured it would help me hone some of my skills for the long term as well as with my current story.

If we were having coffee, I’d let you know that while I have enjoyed participating in Write Tribe’s Festival of Words, my mind has been everywhere. It’s been thinking about my stories and also about my blogs. You see, I want to merge Living my Imperfect Life and Sanch Writes because I cannot maintain three blogs {Yes, three as I recently launched a professional one}. But that means rebranding, re-editing, reorganising and redirecting. Which is a LOT of work.

I’d tell you I wish I’d thought of all that when I started blogging ten years ago. I could have had a consistent brand for all this time. I’m thinking of going with Sanch Writes because, well, it’s what I do. I would ask your opinion about it all and take note of what you say.

If we were having coffee, I’d tell you I’m excited about having some friends over for dinner on Saturday. And I plan on going for a short hike on Sunday following which I will catch up on the blog posts from this festival.

If we were having coffee, I’d ask you how you’ve been. I’d want to know how you found this writing festival. I’d ask for your thoughts on blog rebranding. And I’d also want to know your plans for the weekend.

Do share!

I’d vote for Babby babbles, but well, I’d be the only one 😉

I have enjoyed writing this last week, and I hope that ends an unsure period of my writing year.

You should consider joining a blogging challenge called Fly on the Wall. It is a once a month challenge to share with everyone what happened behind closed doors the previous month. From the post you wrote here, I believe you will really enjoy it.

A lovely coffee meet up! on-going education is my personal 5-star characteristic! Realizations are great learnings too 🙂 Sounds like a packed weekend and month ahead – Good Luck with your challenges! It was a pleasure reading you this festival!
I like ‘Sanch Writes’ – definitely more aligned, also opens up more writing subject avenues. What’s the professional blog called? I’d be interested to read that too 🙂

The rebranding will surely take a lot of time when you merge both the blogs. I think you need at least 2 complete days focused on this revamp or 1 week to merge and get it to your satisfaction. I enjoyed participating in the Write tribe festival of words and I am looking forward to more like this. All the best for hiking. I am loving nature walks and hikes a lot these days.

If we had coffee, I would be so fascinated by all the things you do and more importantly your braveness in sharing your personal story. I would tell you how inspiring you are, but you would shrug it off, as you don’t like to accept compliments b ut moreso, because you are a very humble person. If we had coffee I would share my support to rebrand your blogs and website but I would also share my opinion and ideas to see you plan flouish. I know if we were having coffee, you would want to hear all about me, because you are a genuine and concerned person but I would keep my story brief, simply because your life and talent interest me more.

If we were having coffee I would tell that this week was fab with the festival of words going on full swing.
I would tell you to go with your mind on rebranding. It would be easier to manage 2 blogs instead of 3, and you can dedicate more time on 2, rather than 3.
If I were having coffee I would tell that this weekend is going to be a lazy one, so it’s going to be a happy day. <3

Ha! tell me about it! I had been thinking day and night about merging my food blog and this one where I rant. But I am going against it. You should though. I think that’s the right call 🙂

Yeah having food blog and personal blog separate is good as they’re different niches. In a way, my writing and personal blogs are usually just writing anyway so it doesn’t make sense to have it separate. I want it to be a writer’s blog/platform so I will need to look through some of my posts on the personal one and make them private or cancel them

3 blogs and pebbles and buttons…you have great energy girl…take a bow.

The course on finding your voice sounds excellent – do share some takeaways with us after! As for merging and rebranding your blog – I’d say use the brand that is more popular. I think both would give you equal freedom in terms of the topics to write, but that could be another consideration too. And finally, I’d say don’t beat yourself over not getting this right 10 years ago – you probably had no idea if you were going to enjoy blogging, let alone knowing you may have had 3 blogs 10 years down the line!

Oh yeah, merging and rebranding is a lot of work. But I think that’s good considering that it will be easier to tend to two blogs rather than three. We all wish at some point that we knew then what we know now, right? But.. Anyway, I see you have a busy weekend ahead. I have a busy one too. Have to organize the new apartment and clean up the old one before handing back the keys. My birthday dinner got postponed to this weekend as last few days were extremely busy for both my husband and me.
Congratulations on completing the challenge, Sanch. 🙂

If we were having coffee, I would enjoy hearing you tell stories! God luck with rebranding. Three blogs sounds exhausting.

I wish you all the best for the short story competition.

I am glad you felt the course as a refresher course. It shows how much you have learnt.

Tell me one thing, why do we have to get better always ? Can’t we not be same and continue to remain the same ?

    • Reply Sanch Writes August 22, 2017 at 6:56 PM

Interesting question Puja…I think we can continue to remain the same if it makes us content and happy. Don’t think there is anything wrong with that. For me, it’s not about getting better as a person but I guess trying to grow more? We’ll never be perfect and it’s not what I’m striving for but just getting a better sense of myself and what I want in life because of my feeling of discontent with some things 🙂
