Ramblings #FridayReflections

February 3, 2017

I’d planned to write a different post — one about a book I like. Somehow though, my mind seems to have hit a roadblock. No, it’s certainly not writer’s block as I’ve been writing a lot this week. It’s just an uninspired feeling when trying to write that particular post. I wonder whether that happens to other people. I wonder if they have an idea, a goal, and even the material to write. And then, nothing. In spite of all that, nothing seems to flow when the fingers are poised above the keyboard.

My mind is rarely still these days. I feel like I’ve got so much to do even when I’m not really doing much. The sea-change was about a relaxed lifestyle. But I still haven’t given up my Saturday job and have taken up the health writing gig which in addition to my full time job, is a lot of hours. I also try to fit in my exercise every morning and my blogging most nights. So guess what has to give in the end? Sleep. And creative writing or pitching to magazines. I like the money I get from the jobs. Let me rephrase that. I need the money I get from all my jobs. But I also enjoy the work most of the time. I guess though, unless I want to burn out, I’ll have to give up the Saturday job at some point. It’s not every Saturday and it’s flexible but it still can eat into my downtime.

Some days I look at my life and feel content. Other days, I wonder what’s the point. Some days I yearn the company of others and need to connect. Other days, I want to withdraw into my little bubble with just the cats, my laptop, internet and books. I don’t need anyone. I don’t want anyone. I notice I’m having more introverted days again. I’d thought I’d become extraverted a couple of years ago but I suppose my mental health setback took its toll and I now get overwhelmed after too much time with too many people. It’s exhausting.

Yet, I look forward to book clubs or meetup groups and even spending time with people at work. I enjoy laughing with them and chatting about everything and anything. I long to meet my blogging tribe, to catch up with them over coffee and have long conversations. It’s strange how a person can oscillate.

If you are new to Friday Reflections, here’s what it’s about. It’s the end of the week, you’re probably exhausted with work, and all you want to do is sit back, put your feet up, sip on some fancy cocktail or wine, and write away.

Corinne from Everyday Gyaan and yours truly give you writing prompts and all you have to do is choose any one of those prompts to blog about and link up every Friday. The link will be open till the Monday. After you link up, be sure to spread the love by visiting other bloggers who have linked up too.

Feel free to add our Friday Reflections badge to your post or sidebar! Follow us on Twitter @FridayReflect and join our Facebook Group. Share your post on social media with the hashtag #FridayReflections.

Prompts for this week:
1. Describe the craziest dream you’ve had
2. Freewrite: set your alarm for 20 minutes and just start. Keep writing till it goes off.
3. Your favourite book about writing
4. “You know you’re in love when you can’t fall asleep because reality is finally better than your dreams.” – Dr Seuss. Use this quote in your post or as an inspiration for one.

Our featured writer last week was Shilpa for her post on toxic people. If you want to be our featured writer next week, all you have to do is write a post on one of the prompts above and link up below! Come back on Monday and vote for your favourite posts {preferably not your own}.

I just read that post, Toxic People. It was excellent and so true. I think most of us just want to stay at home with our animals sometimes. P.S. I love those thongs in the photograph!

Oh wow, you have so much going on! I think it’s amazing that you still make time to do any writing at all. Hope things slow down for you and you get those recovery days. I’m loving having a quiet day today with no one else home! (until school pick up time – somebody stop the clocks!)

You are busy, in a stressful career, and busy people do need to take care of themselves. As an introvert, withdrawing from the world is what works best for me. Seems, as I’ve grown older (I’m in my 60’s) the emotions even themselves out more, so you can, perhaps, look forward to that.

Oh dear, you sure have a lot going on. And I thought I was busy! I guess it’s all relative.

But you need to take some downtime dearie. Not every now and then, but on a more consistent basis.

Hoping you are able to find a good balance for yourself soon.

P.S. I love the prompts. I am headed out this weekend, but will surely be participating in the #FridayReflections linky going forward. One question – We can write outside of these prompts as well, right? For Friday Reflections?

I have that tendency too – I have been procrastinating on writing about a book because every time I sit down to write, I feel that today I won’t be able to do justice to the book…..for some reason, there is a deluge of thoughts but no vent…..Socializing or not, company or solitude – that is also something that pulls me in contrary directions…..I guess, life is like that only….!

I get what you’re saying. There are days when I feel super ambitious and want to rule the world. Then, there are days when I just wanna sit in a corner with a book and a cup of green tea.

You have a busy life and I am in no position to give you sane advice but I know that we need time to relax ad refresh. So, think what is need-to-have vs good-to-have. It may help 🙂
