10 ways to win my heart #FridayReflections

December 2, 2016

Pop culture likes to present women as complicated beings. Apparently, sometimes even we don’t know what we want. Me, I like to disagree. I think it’s very easy to win my heart.

Here are 10 simple ways to win my heart:

Buy or lend me books

This is no-brainer. If you buy me books or lend me books or even just give me book vouchers to buy my own books, I’m the happiest girl on the planet! In fact, my favourite uncle bought me 6-10 books on every birthday from when I was twelve till I turned twenty.

Cook me a meal

Trust me, I’ll love you for it! I do enjoy cooking but it can be such a chore. I always, always, always appreciate it when someone cooks me a meal. And no, it doesn’t have to be fancy!

Clean my house

I hate cleaning. And dusting and tidying. If you could do that, you’ve totally won me over!

Be spontaneous

Let’s go on unplanned day trips or go on a road trip without booking a place. Let’s just go to the movies without planning or eat out on a whim. Most importantly, make decisions rather than letting me make a decision all the time.

Be adventurous

I guess it’s similar to being spontaneous but this is with a bit more risk. Let’s check out places we haven’t seen, eat cuisines that are new to us, speak to random strangers on the street and just have fun.

Be kind

I’m a sucker for kindness. And not just towards me but towards others as well. And more so, to people who others might treat like crap. The best example I can give of this is the quote by J. K. Rowling in Harry Potter: “If you want to know what a man’s like, take a good look at how he treats his inferiors, not his equals.” So yes, if you treat your inferiors with kindness and respect, you’ve won my heart.

Reference Harry Potter or F.R.I.E.N.D.S in life situations

You are my best friend and my soulmate! {Currently in my life, it’s only my sister who does this}

Love my cats

They are my babies, my family, my life. If you love them even half as much as I do, you’ve won my heart.

Talk to me about writing, about feminism, about life

If you can have deep and meaningful conversations with me about one or more of my passions, we will definitely click. I love talking about crazy things but the deep and meaningful stuff that can get me wired and thinking is just amazing.

Make me laugh

Whether you have a dry sense of humour, a cheeky one, a politically incorrect one or just a slapstick one, if you can make me laugh, you’ve certainly won me over.

See, I told you I’m not complicated. You’d think these things would be easy, right? Having said that, I’m realistic enough to know there will never be one person who will do all the 10 things to win my heart! Such a shame! 😛

So tell me, what does it take to win your heart?

Do share!

This is a beautiful post and I think you have grabbed all of my ‘must-haves’ too. I like the spontaneous point. I am trying to harness this one and put it into practice. Maybe it will be my new goal for the new year.

Cooking me a meal is always a winner and that is just how my partner won my heart – Nasi Goreng, forever a favourite meal. Oh and he does the vacuuming as well!

You’re right Sanch it is often simple things that make people happy although my list would be quite different from yours. No cats (or dogs) for me to begin with. But being kind, cooking me a meal, cleaning my house, love Harry Potter – I could do with those.

We have a lot in common. I would love someone to clean my house and I would love to have a big enough house to store all my books. But alas, I’ve given enough away in the last couple of years. But now, I know how to impress you if we ever meet.

ALL of it…especially the books, the cleaning, the cats, the kindness, the adventures, the spontaneity, well…again…all of it except Harry Potter. I have nothing against the Potter fanatics, I just didn’t jump aboard that train.

Women are not so complicated as men make them out to be. I would rather have someone do the dishes and keep the house clean than be gifted with jewelry. That friend’s reference… We do it all the time… Specially the unagi one. My sister always does a BBT reference… She is the sheldon of our lives. And books! That’s the best gift ever 😀
